Friday Prayers

Morning

Opening Sentence

John 4:23

The hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.

O Lord, open our lips;
And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Psalm 119

145 I call with my whole heart; * answer me, O Lord, that I may keep your statutes.

146 I call to you; oh, that you would save me! * I will keep your decrees.

147 Early in the morning I cry out to you, * for in your word is my trust.

148 My eyes are open in the night watches, * that I may meditate upon your promise.

149 Hear my voice, O Lord, according to your loving‑kindness; * according to your judgments, give me life.

150 They draw near who in malice persecute me; * they are very far from your law.

151 You, O Lord, are near at hand, * and all your commandments are true.

152 Long have I known from your decrees * that you have established them for ever.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

Te Deum Laudamus

We praise you, O God, we acclaim you as Lord; all creation worships you, the Father everlasting. To you all angels, all the powers of heaven, The cherubim and seraphim, sing in endless praise: Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. The glorious company of apostles praise you. The noble fellowship of prophets praise you. The white-robed army of martyrs praise you. Throughout the world the holy Church acclaims you: Father, of majesty unbounded, your true and only Son, worthy of all praise, the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide. You, Christ, are the king of glory, the eternal Son of the Father. When you took our flesh to set us free you humbly chose the Virgin’s womb. You overcame the sting of death and opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers. You are seated at God’s right hand in glory. We believe that you will come to be our judge. Come then, Lord, and help your people, bought with the price of your own blood, and bring us with your saints to glory everlasting.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Collect

Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. Amen.

Personal Prayer

Here you may include your petitions, supplications, intercessions, and thanksgivings (1 Timothy 2:1). Pray for the world, the nation, the local community, the church, your neighbors, those who suffer, and those in any trouble.

Grace

Ephesians 3:20-21

Glory to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine: Glory to him from generation to generation in the Church, and in Christ Jesus forever and ever. Amen.

Noon

Opening Sentence

Psalm 117

Praise the Lord, all you nations; laud him, all you peoples. For his loving‑kindness toward us is great, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Hallelujah!

O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Psalm 120

1 When I was in trouble, I called to the Lord; * I called to the Lord, and he answered me.

2 Deliver me, O Lord, from lying lips * and from the deceitful tongue.

3 What shall be done to you, and what more besides, * O you deceitful tongue?

4 The sharpened arrows of a warrior, * along with hot glowing coals.

5 How hateful it is that I must lodge in Meshech * and dwell among the tents of Kedar!

6 Too long have I had to live * among the enemies of peace.

7 I am on the side of peace, * but when I speak of it, they are for war.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

The First Song of Isaiah

Isaiah 12:2-6

Surely, it is God who saves me; I will trust in him and not be afraid. For the Lord is my stronghold and my sure defense, and he will be my Savior. Therefore you shall draw water with rejoicing from the springs of salvation. And on that day you shall say, Give thanks to the Lord and call upon his Name; Make his deeds known among the peoples; see that they remember that his Name is exalted. Sing the praises of the Lord, for he has done great things, and this is known in all the world. Cry aloud, inhabitants of Zion, ring out your joy, for the great one in the midst of you is the Holy One of Israel.

Amen.

Collect

Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name. Amen.

Personal Prayer

Here you may include your petitions, supplications, intercessions, and thanksgivings (1 Timothy 2:1). Pray for the world, the nation, the local community, the church, your neighbors, those who suffer, and those in any trouble.

Let us bless the Lord.
     Thanks be to God.

Evening

Opening Sentence

John 8:12

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world; whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Praise the Lord.
     The Lord’s name be praised.

Psalm 119

153 Behold my affliction and deliver me, * for I do not forget your law.

154 Plead my cause and redeem me; * according to your promise, give me life.

155 Deliverance is far from the wicked, * for they do not study your statutes.

156 Great is your compassion, O Lord; * preserve my life, according to your judgments.

157 There are many who persecute and oppress me, * yet I have not swerved from your decrees.

158 I look with loathing at the faithless, * for they have not kept your word.

159 See how I love your commandments! * O Lord, in your mercy, preserve me.

160 The heart of your word is truth; * all your righteous judgments endure for evermore.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

Magnificat

Luke 1:46-55

My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. For he has regarded the lowliness of his handmaiden. For behold, from now on, all generations will call me blessed. For he that is mighty has magnified me, and holy is his Name. And his mercy is on those who fear him, throughout all generations. He has shown the strength of his arm; he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has brought down the mighty from their thrones, and has exalted the humble and meek. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent empty away. He, remembering his mercy, has helped his servant Israel, as he promised to our fathers, Abraham and his seed forever.

Amen.

Collect

Lord Jesus Christ, by your death you took away the sting of death: Grant to us your servants so to follow in faith where you have led the way, that we may at length fall asleep peacefully in you and wake up in your likeness; for your tender mercies’ sake. Amen.

Personal Prayer

Here you may include your petitions, supplications, intercessions, and thanksgivings (1 Timothy 2:1). Pray for the world, the nation, the local community, the church, your neighbors, those who suffer, and those in any trouble.

Grace

Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Bedtime

Opening Sentence

Psalm 134

Behold now, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord, you that stand by night in the house of the Lord. Lift up your hands in the holy place and bless the Lord; the Lord who made heaven and earth bless you out of Zion.

Our help is in the Name of the Lord;
The maker of heaven and earth.

Psalm 130

1 Out of the depths have I called to you, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice; * let your ears consider well the voice of my supplication.

2 If you, Lord, were to note what is done amiss, * O Lord, who could stand?

3 For there is forgiveness with you; * therefore you shall be feared.

4 I wait for the Lord; my soul waits for him; * in his word is my hope.

5 My soul waits for the Lord, more than watchmen for the morning, * more than watchmen for the morning.

6 O Israel, wait for the Lord, * for with the Lord there is mercy;

7 With him there is plenteous redemption, * and he shall redeem Israel from all their sins.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love’s sake. Amen.

Nunc Dimittis

Luke 2:29-32

Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.

Lord, now let your servant depart in peace, according to your word. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared before the face of all people; to be a light to lighten the Gentiles, and to be the glory of your people Israel.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.
